Tiefwerder, Village and nature reserve in Spandau, Germany
Tiefwerder is a settlement and nature reserve in Spandau situated along the Havel River. Fifteen colonist houses stand along Dorfstraße amid meadows, waterways, and mature trees.
The settlement began in 1815 when descendants of Spandau Kietz fishermen relocated here after their former community was destroyed. This move established a new riverside community that has endured to the present day.
The Dorfstraße settlement shows how colonist families organized daily life near the water. The preserved houses and the 1895 Ballhaus reflect a way of living that shaped this riverside community.
Bus M49 reaches the Freybrücke stop, from which you can walk into the area. Parking is available near the Havel riverbank, though exploring on foot reveals the settlement best.
The meadows of Tiefwerder serve as Berlin's last natural spawning ground for pike and harbor numerous rare plant and animal species. This ecological value makes the area particularly important for nature watchers.
