Horst

Horst is a mountain summit in the Spessart region rising to about 540 meters with steep slopes shaped by geological faulting. The peak is covered in dense forest and accessible by established hiking routes throughout the area.

The term Horst was coined in 1883 by geologist Eduard Suess to describe a raised fault block bounded by fractures in the earth. This geological concept helped explain the formation of mountain ranges including the Spessart.

The mountain serves as a popular hiking destination for people from surrounding communities who use its trails to explore the forested landscape. The wooded slopes create a natural setting that draws outdoor enthusiasts throughout the year.

The trails are accessible throughout the year, with spring and autumn offering the most pleasant conditions for visiting. Sturdy footwear is advisable due to the steep slopes and uneven terrain.
