Limeskastell Pohl, Roman fort and museum in Pohl, Germany.
Limeskastell Pohl is a reconstructed Roman fort built from wood and earth that formed part of the Roman frontier defense line. The site contains exhibits with weapons, tools, and informational panels about life along this ancient border.
The fort was built around 100 AD when Rome needed to secure this frontier region. The site shows how Romans controlled and defended their borders using chain of such fortifications.
The fort displays how Roman soldiers lived day to day as you walk through the wooden buildings. You see how cramped the spaces were and what objects the men used to make themselves at home here.
The site is easy to reach on foot and has flat paths for exploring the entire fort. Bring warm clothes as the wooden buildings are open and offer little shelter from bad weather.
Inside the fort stands a complete reconstruction of a soldiers' barracks showing where and how eight men lived together. The detailed furniture and personal items give a rare look at the tight daily life these soldiers shared.
