Julius-Leber-Kaserne, Military base in Wedding, Berlin, Germany.
The Julius-Leber-Kaserne is a military compound in Wedding, a district in central Berlin. The installation consists of more than a hundred buildings arranged around a central axis with an oval ring road.
French troops occupied the site after 1945 and renamed it Quartier Napoléon. The Bundeswehr took over in 1994 after war damage had been repaired in the following years.
Its name honors Julius Leber since 1995, a social democrat who opposed the Nazi government. This choice connects the military site to civilian resistance and moral courage.
The compound sits in the northern part of Berlin, not far from other neighborhoods in the central district. Access is limited because it remains an active military site.
In 1896, the site became home to Germany's first military aviation unit, Luftschifferbataillon Nr. 1. This battalion marked the beginning of German military aviation at this location.
