Kloster Haina, Medieval Cistercian monastery in Haina, Germany
The Gothic monastery features ornate glass windows, high vaulted ceilings, and stone arches spread across its substantial grounds east of Marburg.
Founded in 1144, the monastery moved locations before settling at its current site, where construction of the church began in 1215 and finished in 1330.
The monastery houses a museum that presents the evolution of psychiatric care through exhibits displaying historical treatment methods and medical advancements.
The monastery complex requires advance reservations for guided tours conducted by the Friends of Haina Monastery organization throughout the year.
Since 1527, following the dissolution of the religious order, the monastery buildings have operated as a state psychiatric hospital.
