Pydna, Former missile base in Kastellaun, Germany

Pydna is a former missile launch site in Hasselbach near Bell that contains administration buildings, support facilities, and reinforced bunkers. The location was specifically designed to house and launch BGM-109G cruise missiles using mobile launcher systems.

The United States Air Force established the 38th Tactical Missile Wing here in 1958, initially deploying Matador missiles. The base later evolved to store and deploy long-range cruise missiles throughout the Cold War period.

The former military site is now home to Nature One, an electronic music festival held inside the old missile bunkers. This festival shows how a place once associated with Cold War tensions has become a space for gathering and celebration.

The site is now primarily accessible as a festival venue and sits in a rural area with hiking trails nearby. It is advisable to check in advance about visiting options since access varies depending on scheduled events.

The missiles stationed here could reach targets across a vast distance, sparking widespread public fear during the Cold War era. This sense of military threat has faded completely today, especially when visitors arrive for the music festival.
