Kennedypark, Public park in Aachen, Germany.
Kennedypark is a green space in eastern Aachen with walking paths, sports fields, playgrounds, and a skateboarding area. The facilities include an all-weather sports field, climbing structures for children, dedicated areas for young kids, and shaded spots for activities.
The park opened in September 1966 on the former site of the Yellow Barracks, which housed Prussian, French, and Belgian military forces until 1929. This transformation marked the shift from military use to public green space.
Eight Doric columns from the former military barracks frame the entrance and reflect the site's past. A mosaic wall with jungle-themed designs created by local residents in 2009 adds a community touch to the park.
The park is easy to access and offers plenty of room to walk, play, or relax in different areas. Bring sports equipment or simply enjoy the paths, as the space rarely feels crowded.
Student architects from RWTH Aachen played a role in designing the site's transformation. They created a stage for community events following extensive public participation processes.
