Anbetungskloster St. Gabriel, Catholic nunnery in Westend, Berlin, Germany.
Anbetungskloster St. Gabriel is a monastery complex in Berlin-Westend composed of three wings arranged in a Z-shape, connected by an L-shaped passage that links the religious spaces. The church features high round-arched windows and is divided into a public section in the front and a separate choir area reserved for the nuns.
The monastery was built between 1933 and 1937 following designs by architect Martin Braunstorfinger for the Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters congregation. Its construction occurred during a period when modern religious architecture was advancing significantly in Berlin.
The complex bears the name of the Adoration of Gabriel, reflecting in its design the religious devotion of its inhabitants. The brick facades with round-arched openings and decorative relief elements create a distinctive visual presence that reinforces the spiritual character of the place.
The church is accessible through the main entrance of the complex, with the public section easily reached from there. To fully appreciate the architecture, allow time to walk around the exterior to observe the details of the brick facades and decorative elements.
The complex housed the Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters for decades, with the church displaying a distinctly modern appearance through its round-arched windows. In 2021, after more than 80 years of occupation, the remaining sisters relocated to other locations as the community had grown smaller.
