The castle stands on a ridge north of the Jagst River, featuring Renaissance architectural elements, including a round tower and defensive fortifications.
Founded in 1216 by the noble Sulz family, the castle underwent major reconstruction after damages during the Peasants' War of 1525.
The castle maintains its original medieval defense structures, including the shield wall, gate system, and moat with bridge crossing.
The von Crailsheim family continues to own and manage the castle, making parts of it available for private events and functions.
The transformation of the outer courtyard into a garden in 1647 added a different dimension to this military structure.
