Morstein Castle

Morstein Castle perches on a mountain spur at the settlement's edge, surrounded by a ring wall that protects both the outer bailey and inner fortress. The structure blends medieval fortifications with later Renaissance alterations.

The Lords of Morstein built this knightly fortress in the 13th century, which later passed to the Lords of Crailsheim through inheritance. This transfer of control shaped the castle's later development.

The castle transformed from a military stronghold into a Renaissance residence after a fire in 1571, reflecting how people's tastes changed over time. This shift is visible today in how medieval and early modern features exist side by side.

Visitors cross a stone bridge covered by a half-timbered gate tower to enter the castle grounds. From there, the medieval fortifications and various courtyards can be explored on foot.

A round tower at the southern point secures the outer bailey and connects auxiliary buildings through stone walls. This layout demonstrates how the entire castle was designed as a unified defensive system.
