Ruine Bebenburg, Medieval castle ruin in Rot am See, Germany.
Ruine Bebenburg is a castle ruin in Rot am See and consists of the remains of a medieval fortress. The tower base still stands at considerable height on a hilltop, with its square foundation showing the original construction technique.
The first written record dates to 1140 when Wolfram I von Bebenburg built this fortress as a watchtower. The structure became part of the defensive systems that shaped medieval Württemberg.
The name comes from the family that once ruled from this place. Walking through the area today, you can sense how these fortifications shaped daily life and trade routes in the region.
The ruins are reachable on foot from Bemberg village and lie along a walking path near the streams. Access is fairly straightforward, but prepare for hilly terrain and uneven ground underfoot.
The original fortification featured a circular wall and a moat dug into the hilltop, showing how builders created layered defensive systems. Such measures were typical for sites that could be threatened by raiders moving along the valley.
