Langer Turm, Fortified tower in Aachen, Germany
The Langer Turm stands at the highest point of Aachen's outer city wall, reaching a height of 22.40 meters with four distinct levels of construction.
Built between 1300 and 1350, the tower served as a central watch point between Königstor and Ponttor, monitoring one of the most vulnerable sections of city fortifications.
The tower reflects medieval military architecture through its circular segment floor plan, brick vaulted ceilings, and strategic placement at 204 meters elevation.
Located between Turmstrasse and Junkerstrasse, the tower provides access to multiple hiking trails connecting various historical sites in the surrounding area.
The structure now functions as student housing managed by the Catholic University Community of Aachen, adapting its medieval spaces for modern residential use.
