Nienstedten Cemetery, Cemetery in Altona district, Hamburg, Germany
Nienstedten Cemetery extends across 10.5 hectares of land near the Evangelical Lutheran parish church, featuring numerous gravestones and memorials throughout its grounds.
The cemetery began operations in 1840 and underwent eleven expansions between 1836 and 1975, developing into a central burial ground for Hamburg residents.
The burial ground contains the final resting places of notable figures including merchant Caspar Voght, politician Paul Nevermann, and writer Siegfried Lenz.
The cemetery conducts approximately 250 burials annually and requires membership in the Evangelical Lutheran Church for grave plot purchases.
The old section of the cemetery, established in 1814, predates the main grounds and represents early burial practices in the Hamburg region.
