Hockenheimring Motor-Sport-Museum, Automobile museum at Hockenheimring racetrack, Germany
The Hockenheimring Motor-Sport-Museum was an automobile museum located on the racetrack grounds in Hockenheim, displaying more than 200 exhibits across approximately 2200 square meters. The collection included racing cars, motorcycles, and engines arranged in exhibition halls right beside the racing circuit.
The museum opened in 1986 and was designed by architect Volker Grein. Its original collection came from Walter Brandstetter's museum in St. Pölten, Austria, which was transferred to the Hockenheim location.
The museum displayed motorcycles from makers like Norton, BSA, and BMW, reflecting how Germans viewed these machines as examples of engineering skill. Visitors could see how motorcycle design was valued as a form of technical mastery in the country's industrial tradition.
The museum was located directly at the racetrack near the southern grandstand and was easily accessible from the A6 motorway. The facility permanently closed in 2022 and is no longer open to visitors.
The collection featured the Königswellen-Sunbeam motorcycle, with only four units ever produced worldwide. This exceptionally rare machine made the collection a special place for those interested in uncommon motorcycles.
