Mathäser, Cinema complex in Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt, Germany.
Mathäser is a cinema complex with fourteen screening rooms in Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt, Munich, equipped with modern sound systems. The rooms are distributed across multiple floors, with each auditorium having its own size and technical setup.
The site originally housed a brewery in the nineteenth century that grew into a major inn with beer hall. After World War II a cinema complex emerged on the grounds, which was completely redesigned in the nineties following plans by Peter Lanz.
The name comes from the old brewery that once operated on this site. Today visitors walk through a glass entrance hall with a facade that opens to the street, while behind the ticket counters an open staircase leads to the upper screening rooms.
The entrance is near the main train station, reachable via U-Bahn lines U4 and U5, with barrier-free access throughout the building. Most screenings begin in the afternoon and evening, with foyers and waiting areas offering seating.
The largest auditorium in the building holds eight hundred and twenty-nine seats and certification for advanced sound systems. Some rooms also offer original language screenings with German subtitles, which can be helpful for foreign language speakers.
