Ragöser Damm

Ragöser Damm is a concrete structure in the Oder-Havel Canal that stretches about 800 meters across the landscape. The construction regulates water flow between different elevation levels in the canal system.

The structure was built between 1907 and 1911 as a canal dam to handle the elevation difference in the Ragöse valley. Its construction required about one million cubic meters of soil material.

The dam is part of a water management system that made this region navigable for boats. Today visitors can see how engineering shaped the landscape and enabled transport routes that still matter.

The dam was reinforced in 1997 and 1998 with modern sheet piles to improve stability and manage water flow. Visitors should note that this is an active water transport system still in regular use.

The height and design of this dam make it a notable example of early engineering innovation. The inflow system and water control mechanisms show solutions that were advanced when the structure was completed.
