Ringwall Hünerberg

Ringwall Hünerberg, Medieval fortification ruins in Kronberg im Taunus, Germany.

The Ringwall Hünerberg is a medieval fortification site in Kronberg im Taunus with natural rock formations and steep cliffs built into its design. The site covers approximately 2 hectares with a perimeter of around 750 meters, combining artificial defenses with the natural landscape.

Archaeological excavations in 1886 and 1909-1910 revealed settlement traces from the Urnfield culture, Hallstatt period, and Roman times in the surrounding area. These discoveries show that the location was used by different peoples across many centuries.

The site preserves dry stone walls in its western section and shows signs of ancient metalworking through iron slag deposits discovered during explorations. These traces give visitors a sense of how people once worked and lived in this place.

The Black Dot Trail marked by the Taunus Club leads through the archaeological site and provides clear direction for exploration. Visitors should move carefully and stay on marked paths since the site has protected status and requires respectful handling.

A Gilboa memorial was established in 2010 in the southwest area to commemorate the partnership between Hochtaunuskreis and Gilboa County in Israel. This unexpected element links local heritage with international connections.
