Schloss Gymnich, Medieval water castle in Erftstadt, Germany

The castle forms an L-shaped complex with two wings, featuring two towers on the west wing and a northern section connected at an angle.

Heinrich I von Gymnich built the first castle in 1354, which became a feudal property of the Archbishop of Cologne Wilhelm von Gennep.

The interior decorations include wall panels, stucco work, and paintings depicting all castles belonging to Elector Clemens August of the 18th century.

The castle grounds span 21 hectares and contain a park, with access through Balkhausener Straße near the local church entrance gate.

From 1971 to 1990, the castle served as the Federal Government Guest House, hosting numerous international diplomatic meetings and state visitors.
