The original medieval moated castle, first mentioned in 898, served as a strategic fortification between the Duchy of Jülich and the Electorate of Cologne.
The castle chapel, constructed in 1895, incorporates ninety different types of marble throughout its floors and walls, displaying remarkable architectural craftsmanship.
The estate maintains an organic café serving food from its gardens and offers guided tours of the castle grounds, chapel, and permaculture projects.
The restoration of Schloss Türnich began in 2009 after groundwater depletion from nearby coal mining caused substantial structural damage to the buildings.
