Kerpen, Administrative district in Rhein-Erft, Germany
Kerpen is a large district town in the Rhein-Erft-Kreis, in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It sits southwest of Cologne and is made up of several distinct neighborhoods spread across the surrounding countryside.
The town took its current form in 1975 when several independent communities, including Balkhausen, Blatzheim and Brüggen, were merged into one municipality. This reorganization was part of a wider administrative reform carried out across North Rhine-Westphalia at that time.
