Schloss Holtfeld

Schloss Holtfeld is a Renaissance castle in Borgholzhausen featuring a single-wing main building distinguished by two decorated gables, volutes, and a square corner tower. The grounds are surrounded by traditional timber-framed structures that complete the estate's appearance.

The castle first appeared in written records in 1380 in an Osnabrück feudal register when it belonged to the Lords of Todrank. In 1497 it passed to the Reichsfreiherren von Wendt family, marking a significant change in its ownership and development.

The chapel within the building shows how religion was woven into the daily life of noble families who lived here. Visitors can still see this private prayer space with its original architectural details today.

The castle is located at Schlossallee 18 in Borgholzhausen and now houses offices, exhibition areas, and residential apartments following restoration work. Before visiting, check which areas are open to the public as parts of the property remain privately used.

The estate contains two distinct gatehouses built in different periods: an inner gate building from 1632 and an outer gate house from 1705 adorned with an arch and coat of arms. These structures reveal how the property expanded and evolved across different eras.
