Sender Boppard, Telecommunication tower on Fleckertshöhe hill, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany
Sender Boppard is a telecommunications tower located on Fleckertshöhe hill near Boppard in Rhineland-Palatinate. The modern structure stands at approximately 123 meters and is supported by three steel legs, serving as a technical landmark visible from the surrounding Rhine Valley region.
The original tower was constructed in 1935 as one of Germany's early telecommunications structures and played a role in transmitting the 1936 Olympics. Modernization in the 1990s brought new radar technology to the site.
The transmission facility represents German engineering excellence through its architectural design, combining both historical and contemporary broadcasting technologies.
The tower is clearly visible from the surrounding landscape and serves as a reliable landmark for visitors exploring the region. While the technical installations are not open to the public, the views of the tower itself and the surrounding Rhine Valley landscape offer good opportunities for photography.
In the 1990s, the original transmission antenna was replaced with a radome system containing air traffic control radar. This conversion shows how the historic infrastructure was repurposed for modern air traffic management.
