St.-Johannes-Kirche, Lutheran church building in Wiefelstede, Germany
The St.-Johannes-Kirche features a fieldstone construction with a separate brick bell tower that stands at the end of the structure.
Archbishop Adalbert of Bremen consecrated the first church at this location in 1057, replacing an earlier wooden structure in the Ammerland region.
The main altar contains a large triptych from 1520 depicting the crucifixion scene and other events from Christ's passion, influenced by Albrecht Dürer.
The church maintains regular Lutheran services and conducts approximately 90 baptisms annually using a carved baptismal font from 1637.
The 1980 renovation uncovered Gothic frescoes from the late 14th century showing Jesus on the cross with Mary, John, Peter, and Paul.
