Black Forest Open Air Museum

The museum complex contains six complete farmhouses from different periods, displaying traditional Black Forest architecture and agricultural equipment across its grounds.

The centerpiece Vogtsbauernhof farmhouse, constructed in 1612, represents the foundation of this cultural institution which opened to visitors in 1963.

The museum presents traditional crafts through demonstrations, including textile work, dairy production, woodworking, and the manufacturing of Black Forest clocks.

Visitors can reach the museum by train at the Gutach Freilichtmuseum station, with services running hourly during regular operating hours from March to November.

The museum maintains a medicinal herb garden featuring 130 different plant species that were historically used by Black Forest inhabitants for traditional remedies.
