The Schwarzwaldbob, Summer toboggan run in Gutach, Germany
The Schwarzwaldbob is a summer toboggan run in Gutach, in the Black Forest region of Germany, where riders descend on individual sleds along a winding track through the trees. The track includes curves, small jumps, and tunnel sections, making for a varied descent from top to bottom.
The run was built as a modern take on alpine sledding, adapted for a fixed track that can operate outside of winter. Over time, the safety systems and track layout were updated to meet current standards for recreational facilities.
The run sits right next to the Vogtsbauernhof open-air museum, where old Black Forest farmhouses have been moved and rebuilt on site. Visitors often combine both stops in a single outing, moving between the old and the new within walking distance.
The run is generally open from spring through autumn, so visiting outside those months is not possible. A lift takes riders back to the top after each descent, so there is no need to walk uphill between runs.
Each rider controls their own sled with a hand brake, which means the speed on any given section of the track is entirely up to the person sitting in it. Two people riding the same track on the same day can have a completely different experience depending on how they use the brake.
