TerraZoo Rheinberg, Reptile zoo in Rheinberg, Germany.
TerraZoo Rheinberg is a reptile zoo in North Rhine-Westphalia housing around 400 animals from roughly 100 species, including Nile crocodiles, tortoises, lizards, amphibians, and invertebrates. These animals live in terrariums outfitted with natural materials, real plants, and specific substrates suited to their needs.
The facility started in 1996 in a basement in Moers, a nearby town, before moving to the Winterswick district in 2001. This relocation allowed for significant growth in the animal collection and exhibition areas.
The zoo takes its name from the terrariums that house the animals and serves as a place where visitors learn about reptile habitats and their role in nature. People come here to develop a connection with these creatures and understand why protecting them matters.
Weekdays are generally less crowded, and you should allow at least two hours to walk through and observe the terrariums at a comfortable pace. The location is easily accessible by car and has parking available on site.
The zoo uses natural daylight in its terrariums to support the creatures' natural rhythms, keeping them more active and behaving naturally. This approach sets it apart from many other facilities that rely primarily on artificial lighting.
