Gut Trenkelhof

Gut Trenkelhof is an agricultural estate on the northeastern edge of Eisenach, situated between the villages of Stockhausen and Großenlupnitz. The property sits at 246 meters in elevation and features traditional farm buildings that reflect the rural heritage of the region.

The estate was first documented in 1433 as property of the Thuringian landgraves and transferred to Duke Johann Ernst in 1598. This transition marked a shift toward its use as private property for an important noble family.

Felix Schuchard, born at Trenkelhof in 1865, created detailed pen drawings of the estate, documenting its architectural features for future generations.

The estate sits near the junction of federal roads B88 and B84, making it easily accessible by car. Renovation work began in 2017 on the protected historical building, so parts of the site may have limited access during your visit.

In 1806, Lieutenant Friedrich Hellwig led a surprise attack with 50 hussars to free captured soldiers during the Napoleonic Wars. This bold event left a lasting mark on the local history of the region.
