Strohner Maarchen

Strohner Maarchen is a dry volcanic crater in the Vulkaneifel region near the village of Strohn. It forms an elongated oval basin that visitors can explore through walking paths that lead around and into the crater depression.

The crater formed through volcanic activity in the Vulkaneifel region, which shaped the geological character of the area. After the eruptions ceased, the crater floor gradually accumulated organic matter and became the foundation for the current landscape.

The area around the crater serves as a place where visitors can explore natural volcanic landscapes and learn about Earth's geological processes. Local residents and travelers use this space to observe the distinctive plants and rock formations that develop in such volcanic zones.

The crater is best explored on foot using the marked trails that run through and around it year-round. Visit during dry weather when possible, as the paths can become slippery after rain.
