Walk of Fame of Cabaret, sidewalk between Proviant-Magazin and Schönborner Hof in Mainz, Germany
The Walk of Fame of Cabaret is a sidewalk in Mainz decorated with stainless steel stars that honor important figures in cabaret and comedy. Each star is set into a bronze square and displays the artist's name, their signature, and the sponsor's name.
The project began in 2004 when the German Cabaret Archive moved into a historic warehouse, with the first stars unveiled in July of that year. Between 2004 and 2015, 80 stars were placed to honor key figures from writing, performance, and music.
The walk honors a long tradition of satire and humor that runs deep in Mainz's history. Visitors learn how these performers shaped German comedy and made their mark on the local cultural scene through their work.
The walk is located in the Romano-Guardini-Platz area and is free to visit at any time as you explore on foot. The stars are embedded in the pavement and can be scanned with a smartphone to discover more information and stories about the honored artists.
Each star on the walk carries the original signature of the honored person engraved directly into the pavement, making it a rare collection of autographs preserved in bronze and steel. These personal signatures create an authentic connection between the installation and the artist being remembered.
