Vicelinkirche

The Vicelinkirche features massive stone walls, rounded arches, and a defensive tower measuring 48 meters in height at its main entrance.

Construction of the church began in 1156 after Count Adolf II commissioned Vicelin to convert the Slavic population following the Holstein conquest of Wagrien.

The church interior contains historical elements including a suspended crucifix from the late 16th century and a pulpit basket dating from 1824.

The church maintains regular services and welcomes visitors as part of an active Lutheran congregation serving 2,500 members across eight surrounding communities.

The building materials include field stones connected with gypsum mortar from the Segeberg limestone mountain, covered by wooden shingles on the roof.
