Kaskade opened in 1952, designed by Paul Bode for the Filmtheaterbetriebe Georg Reiss with 903 seats. Its auditorium, known for water-light displays by Otto Prystawik, marked a shift from theatre to pure cinema. After multiplex competition, the last screening was in 2000; the hall stood unused for a decade, was damaged by nearby construction in 2010, and reopened as a Biomarkt on 11 December 2014.
The name refers to the water-light plays designed by Otto Prystawik, which ran before screenings. The original hall at Königsplatz closed in 2000; since 11 December 2014 a Biomarkt has occupied it, and the gold folding ceiling, the water installation under a walkable glass floor and about 80 original seats on the gallery remain. Since October 2020 the Filmpalast at Karlsplatz has run a new Kaskade hall with illuminated, music-accompanied water plays and an adjoining 1950s-style bar.
The original Kaskade at Königsplatz closed in 2000; the cinema now operating under this name is the Kaskade hall inside the Filmpalast multiplex at Karlsplatz, opened in October 2020. Look for the golden prism ceiling, red velvet seats and the illuminated water plays with orchestral music before each screening. Laser projection and service at the seat are part of the hall's equipment.
The original Kaskade at Königsplatz closed in 2000; its 1950s wall painting, gold folding ceiling and water-play lighting console survived, and since 11 December 2014 a Biomarkt has occupied the hall.
