Klosterkirche St. Märgen, Catholic pilgrimage church in Sankt Märgen, Germany.
Klosterkirche St. Märgen is a Catholic pilgrimage church in the Black Forest region built in the baroque style with ornate stone carvings and detailed decorative work throughout. The building shows characteristic baroque forms combined with handcrafted interior details.
The site dates back to 1118 and was originally called Cella Sanctae Mariae. After multiple fires destroyed parts of the structure, major reconstruction efforts followed, with the last significant restoration taking place after lightning damage in 1907.
Inside, the church displays wooden religious figures carved by Matthias Faller, a regional sculptor who shaped the Rococo aesthetic. His works give the space a refined artistic character that defines the interior.
The site is open daily, allowing visitors to explore the interior at their own pace. Visitors with larger groups should make special arrangements beforehand to ensure a comfortable experience.
The adjacent monastery museum holds one of the largest collections of Black Forest clocks spanning centuries. Regional jewelry from medieval times is also displayed here, offering a less commonly seen view of local craftsmanship.
