Hirschbach Falls, Waterfall in Sankt Peter and Simonswald, Germany
Hirschbach Falls cascade down a rocky gorge in several stages, creating a series of white water drops through narrow channels. The water flows over smooth stone surfaces and collects in small natural pools before continuing its descent through the forest.
These falls were shaped by glacial erosion during the last ice age, which carved deep basins into the western valley slopes. The current shape of the waterway shows how ice and water reshaped the rock over thousands of years.
The falls represent a natural landmark within the protected Bannwald forest area, demonstrating the geological diversity of the Black Forest region.
Access starts from the Zweribach Bridge parking area via marked trails with ropes and handrails for safety. The routes pass through varied terrain, so good footwear and caution on wet stones are essential.
The waterfall system includes two additional falls located about 300 meters upstream in the Gschwandersdobel high valley, beyond the main cascade. These upper falls receive fewer visitors but offer equally impressive views of the mountainous landscape.
