Jennetal, Nature reserve in Ebringen, Germany
Jennetal is a nature reserve located on the northwestern section of Schönberg mountain, featuring dry soil conditions and vegetation specially adapted to these challenging circumstances. The protected area hosts sessile oak, downy oak, service trees, and multiple orchid varieties that thrive in this specific environment.
The protected area was established in 1937 when Erwin Sumser initiated efforts to preserve the land and protect its natural character. The area was subsequently transferred to the state of Baden-Württemberg in 1960 and has remained under public protection since then.
The Sumser Garden section welcomes visitors during orchid blooming season from mid-April through late June on weekends and holidays. This period allows guests to observe rare plants in their natural setting and experience the reserve's character firsthand.
Most areas are accessible to visitors, though it is important to stay on marked paths and avoid damaging the natural environment. Volunteer nature conservation officers are present to provide information and help ensure that regulations protecting the reserve are followed.
The area provides shelter for approximately 33 breeding bird species that find protected habitats here. This bird population demonstrates the reserve's importance as a refuge for wildlife.
