Founded in 2000 from the transformation of Landes-Polizeischule Baden-Württemberg, the academy underwent significant changes in 2014 when its training division merged with Hochschule für Polizei.
The institution implements intercultural training programs through regular three-day seminars conducted in partnership with the Große Moschee in Buggingen since 2006.
Located at Müllheimer Straße 7 in Freiburg, the academy maintains a digital learning system called Polizei-Online that serves approximately 24,000 police staff members.
During the 2015 refugee crisis, the academy's sports field transformed into an emergency reception center, later becoming a permanent state-run facility for refugees.
