KTS, Self-managed social center in Wiehre district, Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany.
KTS is a self-managed social center housed in a former railway building at Basler Strasse 103 in the Wiehre district. The space functions as a venue for concerts, political meetings, and cultural activities run by volunteers from the community.
The KTS began in 1994 when activists occupied the Vauban barracks to create their own space for independent activities. The group moved to its current railway building in 1998 following agreements with Deutsche Bahn.
The space serves people interested in independent art forms and left-wing politics through regular gatherings and performances. Visitors come here to participate in discussions and listen to music that operates outside mainstream channels.
The building does not have wheelchair access and is run entirely by volunteers who organize events on an ongoing basis. Check the website at kts-freiburg.org for current information about what is happening and when the space is open.
In 2017, regional police raided the building in connection with investigations into the linksunten.indymedia.org website, seizing various materials. This event highlighted how closely authorities monitored the space and its activities.
