Kronenbrücke, Bridge across River Dreisam in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany.
Kronenbrücke is a modern bridge spanning the Dreisam River in central Freiburg with dual lanes for vehicles and separate paths for pedestrians and cyclists. The current structure is designed to accommodate a new tram line and replaced an earlier oval-shaped twin bridge design.
The structure was built in 1869 as an iron bridge, replacing the original wooden construction. After suffering multiple damages from flooding, it underwent major reconstruction that was completed in 1902.
The structure connects the old town district with newer neighborhoods and serves as a daily crossing point for residents moving between different parts of the city. Its location near shops, cafés, and public buildings makes it a natural hub where people gather and pass through.
The bridge handles one-way vehicle traffic with a speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour. Visitors should be aware that tram and construction projects can affect traffic flow, particularly during peak hours.
The structure underwent complete renewal in 2018 and is now specifically designed to integrate modern tram systems. This modernization allowed outdated transportation concepts to be replaced with more efficient and environmentally friendly solutions.
