Plesse Tower

Plesse Tower is a wooden observation structure on Plesse Mountain near Wanfried, rising approximately 22 meters above the surrounding land. The building is constructed from sturdy wooden beams and offers views from its top across the Werra Valley and the hills of the Hesse region.

The structure was built in 1964 as a forestry project using carefully selected wooden materials from the local area. Its construction was part of the regional landscape development efforts in the post-war period.

The tower sits within a protected natural reserve where hikers and nature visitors pass through the landscape. It functions as a local landmark that people recognize and use as a reference point when exploring this area.

The tower is currently closed to visitors due to ongoing safety considerations while renovation work is planned. Before visiting, check locally whether construction work is happening or if access has been restored.

What makes this tower distinctive is that four identical larch trees were chosen as the main corner supports. This careful material selection was crucial for the structure's stability and durability.
