Villa Rumpf, Protected heritage villa at Heiliger See, Potsdam, Germany

Villa Rumpf is a red brick mansion on the shore of Heiliger See featuring Dutch Neo-Baroque elements, including a bell-shaped dome, curved gables, and several balconies facing the water. The building spans multiple floors with various levels and is surrounded by a spacious garden.

The mansion was built in 1894 for painter Fritz Rumpf and reflected his artistic ambitions as a wealthy art collector. After its destruction in 1945, the ruins were later restored and have shaped the lakeside landscape ever since.

The garden pavilion displays wooden columns inspired by the architecture of Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome. This connection to Italian building forms reflects the cosmopolitan tastes that shaped Potsdam's villa landscape.

The building underwent comprehensive renovation, with the installation of an elevator and air conditioning system in the top floor for improved comfort. Access is from the lakeside promenade, which makes the property easily reachable.

Fashion designer Wolfgang Joop acquired the property in 2000 and converted it into the headquarters of his fashion company Wunderkind. This repurposing connects traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design within a protected heritage setting.
