Schloss Windegg, Cultural heritage château in Reichenau, Germany.
Schloss Windegg is a castle in Reichenau with a rectangular plan, three stories, and stepped gables. The building combines medieval structural elements with a Renaissance renovation from the 17th century.
The castle was built in the 14th century as a residence for Reichenau's ministerial officials. A major Renaissance renovation in 1667 gave the building its current appearance.
The former chapel with its cross-ribbed vault now functions as a dining room, while the old library serves as a lounge featuring a tiled stove. These transformations show how the castle's spaces have been adapted for modern use.
The castle is now operated by an energy company and serves as a conference hotel and leisure facility. The public does not have access to the interior or grounds.
The name Windegg refers to the castle's exposed location at the northwestern tip of Reichenau island. Wind is a constant presence in this location.
