Villa Bayer, Historical villa in Berchtesgaden, Germany
Villa Bayer is a residential building in Berchtesgaden that comprises two connected sections arranged in a T-shaped plan. A polygonal bay window on the east side gives the structure its distinctive appearance.
The building was constructed in 1874 by architect Warschek for Prague merchant Josef Bayer. It was built on land that formerly held the Villa Grüneisengarten.
The street here is named Bayerstrasse to honor Karoline Bayer, whose work shaped the community. Walking through town, visitors can see this tribute reflected in the local street names.
The building now houses the Berchtesgaden police station following comprehensive restoration work between 1985 and 1987. Visitors can admire the exterior architecture while keeping in mind it is an active public building in daily use.
The building serves as a location in the ARD crime series 'Watzmann ermittelt', which began broadcasting in 2019. It has become recognizable to viewers of the show through its appearances on screen.
