Soldatenfriedhof Niersenberg, Military cemetery in Kamp-Lintfort, Germany
Soldatenfriedhof Niersenberg is a burial ground on a wooded hill near the B510 road, covering seven hectares with individually marked graves. Each stone cross marks the resting place of two fallen soldiers side by side.
The cemetery was established in 1954 to consolidate remains from 29 provisional burial sites across the region. It holds a total of 1,756 war casualties from conflicts spanning 1914 to 1945.
A large wooden cross at the center serves as the main focal point, guiding visitors as they enter the grounds. Stone memorials and an eagle statue on a brick pedestal near the entrance create a solemn presence throughout the site.
The grounds are maintained by the municipal service provider ASK in cooperation with local youth fire brigades and shooting associations. The wooded setting requires appropriate footwear and remains accessible in most weather conditions.
Among those buried are 50 women and 40 children who died during Allied bombing raids in the final days of World War II. These casualties highlight the civilian toll of bombing campaigns during the war's closing chapter.
