Rossel, Buchholz und Streetzer Busch nördlich Roßlau

Rossel, Buchholz und Streetzer Busch nördlich Roßlau, Conservation area near Coswig and Roßlau, Germany

Rossel, Buchholz and Streetzer Busch north of Roßlau is a protected site covering about 220 hectares near Coswig and Roßlau. The landscape contains natural lakes, streams, meadows, and multiple forest types that together create a varied habitat.

The area was first proposed for protection in October 2000 and gained official designation as a Special Area of Conservation in 2018. This recognition was part of a broader effort to preserve important natural spaces across Europe.

This protected area is part of the European Natura 2000 network, demonstrating Germany's commitment to safeguarding natural habitats. Visitors can observe how different forest and wetland environments coexist and provide homes for rare animal species.

The area is accessible to visitors, but it is a sensitive natural space where protection measures apply. It is best to stay on marked paths and follow the rules that apply in protected areas.

The site contains about 95 hectares of oak forests and rare beech woodland stands that remain largely undisturbed. These unaltered forest types have become scarce in Western and Central Europe and hold scientific value.
