The protected site encompasses 220 hectares of terrestrial land, featuring natural lakes, water courses, meadows, and various forest types in the Continental region.
The area received its official designation as a Special Area of Conservation in December 2018, following its initial proposal in October 2000.
This conservation zone forms part of the NATURA 2000 ecological network, reflecting Germany's dedication to preserving natural habitats within the European Union.
The site contains seven distinct habitat types and provides natural environments for protected species including the Brook lamprey, European beaver, and Eurasian otter.
The area includes 95 hectares of Sub-Atlantic oak forests and maintains specific sections of Luzulo-Fagetum beech forests in their natural state.
