Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm

The Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm is a large parkland with lakes, islands, and classical buildings spread across a wide area. Throughout the grounds you find carefully arranged gardens, pavilions, and bridges that form an integrated whole.

Prince Leopold III began shaping the parkland in 1780 after traveling through Europe with architects to gather new ideas. His travels shaped how buildings and nature connect here.

The garden realm expresses Enlightenment ideals through how buildings, lakes, and gardens work together to invite visitors to explore and discover. Throughout the grounds, nature and human design support each other, creating a world that rewards walking and observing.

An artificial volcano sits among the gardens, built after the prince visited Naples. It performs eruptions at scheduled times, surprising and delighting visitors who encounter it.
