Flussbad Rehsumpf, River swimming bath in Dessau-Roßlau, Germany.
Flussbad Rehsumpf is a historic river bathing facility on the Jonitzer Mulde in Dessau-Roßlau, featuring wooden changing cabins on stilts and elevated walkways over the water. The site sits within a protected natural area and offers direct access to the riverbank with separate areas for swimming.
The facility was founded in 1907 by a local swimming club and became one of the most popular bathing spots in Dessau during the 1920s. It later went through periods of decline but survived as a protected monument.
The Rehsumpf is one of the few river bathing facilities in Germany where the original wooden architecture has largely survived. Visitors can still walk the old elevated boardwalks and see the changing cabins built on stilts above the water.
The bathing area is generally open from May through September and is best reached by bicycle or car from central Dessau-Roßlau. Weekday visits tend to be quieter than weekends, which can be useful if you want more space around the water.
The site contains a traditional wooden structure called Schweinekasten, built specifically to teach children how to swim. Structures of this kind have almost entirely disappeared from German river baths, making this one of the last surviving examples.
