Burg Hoheneck, Medieval castle ruins in Hoheneck district, Ludwigsburg, Germany.
The castle ruins stand on Schlossberg hill, featuring remaining walls, a reconstructed northwest square tower, and surrounding vineyard terraces overlooking the Neckar River.
Constructed around 1200 by Margrave Hermann V of Baden, the castle changed ownership to the Counts of Württemberg by 1360 and fell into disrepair during the following centuries.
The castle grounds reflect the medieval architectural practices, with elements including a moat on western and northern sides and stone walls that served defensive purposes.
Access to the castle ruins requires participation in guided wine tours, as the property remains in private ownership and regular public visits are not permitted.
The castle never possessed its own water source and relied on the Schleifmühlquelle, a spring first documented in 1467, for its water supply.
