Bellevue-Tower, Former hotel tower at Potsdamer Platz, Berlin, Germany.
Bellevue-Tower was a 14-story building at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin with modern architectural design from the 1970s. The structure initially served as a hotel and later provided housing before being demolished for new construction plans.
The building was constructed in 1971 as a hotel and later converted to student housing. In 1991 Daimler-Benz acquired the site and had the structure demolished in 1993 to make way for new development plans.
The tower marked a shift at Potsdamer Platz where older structures gave way to new development. Visitors could see how the city was reinventing itself as its divided eastern and western parts came together.
The building no longer exists as it was demolished during the area's redevelopment. Visitors can view the former site today and see the modern structures that replaced it.
The demolition took place over three days in October 1993 using precise explosive placement to bring the building down in a controlled manner. This removal was notable for its technical precision in a densely built urban area.
