Ehemaliges Restaurant Randel, Gebäude, Historical restaurant building in Poppenbüttel, Germany

The former Restaurant Randel stands at Poppenbüttler Landstraße in Hamburg-Poppenbüttel: a main building from 1901 with side wings that once held the restaurant and kitchen, plus two large brick outbuildings to the north-east and east. A 30,000 m² landscaped park surrounds the ensemble, with a protected fountain group. The complex is a listed monument and has fallen into visible decay.

The building was constructed in 1901 following a lightning strike that destroyed an earlier structure, initially serving as Hotel Waldhof with guest rooms and stables. It later became a restaurant operation and remained active until 2013.

The name Randel has marked the site since 1840, when the family took it over; by 1900 owner Wilh. Randel advertised the house as "Waldhof", reachable from Ohlsdorf on promenade paths in 45 minutes. The sixth generation ran the restaurant from 1998, and the north-east outbuilding was converted into a restaurant called "Del", while the second outbuilding held shops.

The grounds can be viewed from outside, revealing remnants of a spacious park with fountains and various structures. Visitors should be aware that the site is undergoing transformation and access to certain areas may be restricted.

West of the Randel park, immediately beside the grounds, lies a Bronze Age burial mound listed as monument no. 1143. It is a separate protected site from the restaurant ensemble (no. 26889) and its park (no. 39043), so two unrelated eras stand a few steps apart.
