Ehemaliges Restaurant Randel, Gebäude

The former Restaurant Randel is a building in Poppenbüttel situated on spacious grounds with protected garden features and outbuildings. The structure shows evidence of its past as a restaurant and hotel, with some sections damaged while redevelopment plans aim to integrate new uses into the site.

The building was constructed in 1901 following a lightning strike that destroyed an earlier structure, initially serving as Hotel Waldhof with guest rooms and stables. It later became a restaurant operation and remained active until 2013.

The restaurant served as a gathering place for the local community across many decades, becoming deeply woven into the neighborhood's identity. Generations of families returned to share meals here, making it a place where Hamburg residents marked their important moments.

The grounds can be viewed from outside, revealing remnants of a spacious park with fountains and various structures. Visitors should be aware that the site is undergoing transformation and access to certain areas may be restricted.

Adjacent to the restaurant grounds stands a Bronze Age burial mound, protected as an archaeological monument. This ancient site shares the same property as the much later restaurant, creating an unusual layering of history.
