Rathaus Leer, Renaissance town hall in Leer, Germany

Rathaus Leer is a red brick building with a distinctive corner tower bearing large clock faces and an octagonal structure housing a carillon system. The structure combines traditional craftsmanship with representative architecture from the late 19th century.

Construction took place between 1889 and 1894 following an architectural competition won by Karl Henrici. The project marked the city's growing importance as a harbor town in this period.

The entrance hall showcases Renaissance paintings with allegorical figures and ornamental designs across its surfaces. These artistic details give the building its formal and celebratory character.

The building is easily reached from the main square and stands out immediately because of its tower. Visitors can admire the exterior anytime, though access to the interior depends on opening hours.

Following damage to the tuff stone decorations, a major restoration from 2015 to 2020 returned the original red color scheme to the building. The work restored its historical appearance and gave it a renewed brightness.
