Blankensteinhütte, Mountain hut in Tegernsee Alps, Germany
Blankensteinhütte is a mountain hut in the Tegernsee Alps that provides sleeping spaces and meals for hikers and climbers. Located above 1,200 meters in elevation, it accommodates around 20 guests who prepare their own meals.
The hut was built between 2022 and 2024 by the Oberland section of the German Alpine Club using regional materials and modern construction methods. Its creation followed contemporary principles of sustainability suited to the Bavarian mountains.
The hut serves as a meeting point where hikers and climbers from different places gather to rest, eat, and spend the night together. This reflects a longstanding mountain tradition of self-reliance, where visitors cook and eat as a group.
The hike from Kistenwinterstube parking area takes about an hour and a half and requires sturdy boots and moderate fitness. Bring your own groceries since the hut relies on self-catering and supplies are limited.
The northern face of Blankenstein offers several climbing routes of varying difficulty levels for sport climbers. These lesser-used paths appeal to alpinists seeking terrain away from typical hiking trails.
